Why don't we use hosting account on other company to backup our server/vps? there are few company around who offer lot of space an BW. I am thinking to use that account for backup our three VPS. Is that secure?

Most servers have GB's of data, no host would let you download/upload that amount of data. Thats why we have servers which are dedicated to backups. Would you let someone store 100's GB's on your server??

Most of those companies who offer like 1,000 GB of disk space for $5 a month have a clause in their terms of service that states you cannot use the account for backup related purposes. Some of those companies even go as far as saying so much % of your disk space has to be accessible by your website or they will terminate your service. As for it being secure? Of course not! What if the shared server gets compromised, now the script kiddies & crackers will have access to ALL of your backup files and the potential to cause even more damage! Play it safe, get a backup account at BQBackup.com or another cheap dedicated server and secure it good.

Agree, they will not allow you use the space and BW to backup your data. You need purchase a remote backup service to backup your three VPS.

i use hosting services for my backups. most of them don't seem to mind. Hostgator allowed me to use the account for backups, 1.9 TB.

Dont just rely on other servers to hold your backups, it would be a better idea if you also stored a copy of your backup on your local machines for safe keeping.

Logan! Someone as security conscious as yourself should know how bad of an idea that is...
