Need for a new CMS?

Posted by larsmw, 07-12-2012, 06:15 AM
Hi there, I have some ideas for a new CMS and I would like some comments about if you think there is a market for such a thing? Some of the main features would be: 1. Lightweight system 2. wysiwyg-editor, 3. Multilingual, 4. deployment-functions (dev, stage, prod) (Both for code and content) 5. Versioning control 6. Extensibility (plugins/modules/...) Would it be waste of time developing such a system? Or do you say YES! WorkIT! ? :-)

Yes, i know there are many LARGE welmarteted cms's out there. My idea was to make a simple solution with a small code-base.

IMHO your time is better spent hacking one of the existing CMS that you tend to agree with. If you do not agree with any of them though ... go for it!

Who's it for, though? Regular people I would think don't understand "simple" the way programmers do, so they'd just go with Wordpress (or really, whatever the person who helps them tells them to use) because it's the biggest and therefore has the most documentation and the like. And other programmers would probably just roll their own junk up if they really wanted something that wasn't already available. I don't mean to stifle anybody ever, I just don't see who the audience for this sort of thing would be. In the end though, you never know until you code it up and throw it out there, ya?
