ded. servers or reseller for newbie?

Posted by bigjason, 04-24-2003, 05:49 PM
I am a newbie to this business. My only knowledge of this business includes having my own e-commerce website, general knowledge of html. Which is none. I have been preparing to enter this business for a little while now just looking around and had planned to start as a reseller. But seeing the market of the reseller business, I'm thinking "What if?". Does it make any sense to jump in this business with a ded. server and targetring resellers? Considering the fact that I would have to opt for a managed server. Also can I outsource my support in a case like this? Thanks for any help.

I'd suggest you get your own resellers account first. Managing a server is only one small part of operating a hosting business. You have to learn, build and to manage a solid infrastructure for marketing, billing and customer support. Outsourcing is one way of handling the support, but what it doesn't do is help you keep in personal touch with your client base. Lot's of times that's what the customer wants. I would suggest you have both outsoureced and in house support. Just my 2 cents.
