~$50/year less than 1gig space / unlimited domains

Hi All, I am looking for a very stable provider. I have a bunch of very small websites (~50 sites @ ~1-3 meg each with email accounts) and it seems the most economical way to host these are via a reseller account. Any suggestions? I'd like to pay less than $50/year. I don't care where in the world the servers are based. Monthly transfer is probably less than 10 gig. If they offer fantastico/wordpress I am good. I don't need SSL, static IP, billing, etc. I guess I could get by with 50 domains instead of unlimited and ~ 300meg space. Thanks for any recommendations.

Hello, Do you need segregation of the sites? If not, a normal shared hosting plan may be easier to maintain. Hosting these on a reseller account would require you remembering 50+ FTP accounts just to maintain them.

They don't need to be segregated but reseller packages seem to be the way to get "unlimited" domains at a low price aka less than $50/yr. Also, the multiple FTP accts is not a problem - I think I prefer the compartmentalization.

Are all 50 wordpress? NVM, it says 1-3mg each. I read the fatastico/wp thing wrong.

It seems to me that a shared hosting account will suit your needs fine, as long as the provider offers enough add-on domains for your websites. Each domain would have its own folder and you would login via one main FTP account, making your domains easy to manage. Often times with reseller accounts you'll pay more for features that you don't need with what you're planning to do. I would advise against choosing that option, unless having separate accounts for each of your domains is something that you're looking for.

I haven't shopped shared hosting in years so any suggestions on established/stable providers at ~$4/month or ~$50/yr.

Shared around that price should be easy toss in with discounts. Finding a reseller for $50/year might be hard, especially if you want reliable.

Hello. Are you ok to host these 50 accounts as addon domains? (note that addon domains share the same public_html directory for all your sites). Then you can get a good shared plan with unlimited domains within your budget with no issues. If you need to host them as separate cPanel accounts then you would probably need a reseller account, then in the same time if you want a premium provider then you might need a better budget.

I think you will find reliable Reseller provider under your budget if you wish to host up to 50 websites only. By this way, users will be having their own cPanel account/Fantastico to install their instances of WordPress. I request you to take a look at Reseller Hosting offers section to find out better provider under your budget and requirement. With Shared Hosting, you will have a feature of add-on domain [It's like a sub folder for a website on main domain name] from where you can create 50 add on domains for 50 websites. In this case you will have to manage all the FTP accounts, Email accounts, Wordpress installations from the cPanel account of main domain name.

I would not suggest doing that. A good shared hosting account prices probably $2/month, a good reseller account prices $5/month. Spend the extra money, and have all 50 sites using their own cPanel accounts and no addon domains. When he wants to migrate to a VPS one day or something, migration will be much easier. Not to mention organization will be much better and easier with each site having its own account.

Although I agree that 50 add-on domain names clumped together under one shared account is not a good idea (not only from a resource standpoint, but also security). The pricing you have generalized is a bit off. I think if you are looking for a solid shared account you would be looking at around $5-10 per month and Reseller you would be looking at $10-$20 per month. Remember, nothing is truley unlimited, not even cPanel accounts. So I personally would not trust a reseller account offering unlimited everything (even if the diskspace/bandwodth allocation was reasonable) for $50 per year).

50 cached microsites (1-3 pages each) would be fine in a standard reseller account. I stress tested my account at Stream101 this way early this year, and it was fine. I would imagine other well-respected reseller hosts (Stablehost, Hawkhost, and quite a few others at WHT) would perform the same or better. I would put each in a separate cPanel account (under WHM reseller account). Or at very least, divvy them up in some way. Don't cram 50 into the same account, both for resource needs, and for security considerations.

I would usually agree with you if we were talking about larger websites but for these mini-websites that I assume are only a few pages each, having separate accounts could prove to be more of a headache in terms of management. Perhaps splitting them off into say 5 accounts with 10 domains per account would help from a security perspective but allow for easier management. That being said, it also depends on how much updating each of these mini-websites requires. If they're mostly static, unchanging websites, then having each under a separate account would not cause too much of a hassle. It all depends on the OP's preferences.

Not many providers offer such tiny reseller packages. Your best bet is to find a shared host with unlimited domains or contact the potential host for a custom package. Good luck!

Don't bother for a reseller account for that. Just check offers section for your hosting.
