Personal Nameservers

Posted by SilverString, 04-24-2003, 11:32 AM
How many reseller hosting companies provide personal namerservers or unbranded nameservers as part of the reseller package? How much is resonable to pay for a personal nameserver add? I think it should be happening more in reseller packages, you dont really want to be giving your custermers a namesever which looks like: ns1.hostingcompany.com Even if hosts cant provide uniuqe nameservers (ns1.mydomain.com) they could at least provide one which is unbranded like (ns1.ahostingdns.com) which doesnt redirect to the hosting site.

I'd recommend you take a look at Createspace.net I think you'll find what you are looking for there, not to mention reasonable pricing and great service. If you do a search on them - you'll find they have a good reputation within this forum. Best of luck to you. T.J.

nice site....however im not looking for a reseller at the moment. I was just intrested in how many hosting co do provide personal nameservers and what is a resonable price to pay, if any? Also, should they become more as a standard feature with resellers?

Nowadays the price for IPs has been hiked by most of the Server providers. However there cannot be a fixed price for setting up ns1/ns2.yourdomain.com . It depends on the price being paid for the IP addresses by the hosting company. However if you are a serious reseller then it should come as standard. It is a very important feature in terms of 'image' and anonymity. Warm Regards,

Pretty much all reseller providers offer the option, free or paid. If you're looking for private label reselling, i definately recommend you use your own nameservers.

Any serious reseller account should come with your own branded DNS.

Just use your own domain. Go to the registrar, and register your name servers to the IPs of name servers the host tells you to use. Wait ~48 hours... and there you have it, your own branded name servers.

seriuos? will hosts allow that?

Posted by UH-Matt, 04-25-2003, 10:06 AM
So long as they add the ns1. and ns2. a record to dns, there is no problem with doing this.

im confused now... is it with the domain registar or the domain hosting company?

Aussie Bob, I notice you offer both anonymous nameservers and private label nameservers (both at the same cost. Could you share with us what proportion of your customers choose to use your anonymous nameservers rather than their own? Sorry if this is off topic, Thanks, Adrian.

I think the NS should be free for a reseller. If your paying 40-50 per month, the NS should be included in the price already.
