Is it generally accepted to host content with swear words in? I know it all depend on your hosts TOS but im talking generally here. Thanks, Stuart

As long as its not on the index page and they put an appropriate warning with an option to leave without viewing the site.

My client has a forum installed and they have a catafory with a swear word it in. OK or not?

It really depends on your stand for this kind of stuff. Some hosts allow it while others dont.

I think most hosts would not have a problem with swear words. Now if you are talking about racial or hate type words, most hosts would have a problem with that type of language.

It would be difficult to disallow swear words, unless you are also restricting your services to a specific area/community or you are trying to only disallow the ones that offend "you" and are not worried about what offends others in different languages that you may not speak (hardly fair.. but shrug). Once you remove the International barriers the list of swear words becomes hazy at best. Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk Did I swear? Did you know if you call someone a Putz they may believe you have called them a penis rather than a fool? Outside the US lines 'bloody' is far more vulgar... etc etc.... I think language needs to be allowed however, as mpalamar explained, the foundation of the content does need to be monitored to prevent more serious offenses. Thank for your help, thats whats what we tell out clients. We say we support freedom of speach but no direct abuse of rascial or other things.
