Green Cloud Resellers?

Posted by Host Medics, LLC, 09-21-2012, 10:09 PM
I'm looking for reseller cloud hosting that is eco-friendly(green). It seems the only one that I can find is Site5. Anyone know of any?

What is your criteria for determining if a hosting solution is green or not? What specific eco-friendly technologies do you require?

You should read this thread: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1193511 Dont confuse any marketing points with their use of power This is impossible at this point in energy unless you want a really terrible and non redundant experience with your provider. Anyone claiming that is lying (I promise) Last edited by SPINIKR-RO; 09-21-2012 at 11:51 PM.

There is a data center in Texas, United States powered by 100% wind energy.

No there isnt. Those are purchased carbon offsets. You are probably referring to HostGator or someone of the like down there. First of all they are not a data center though they use one. Softlayer does do the carbon offset thing and anyone that has servers there can then pass on that marketing. EX: Hostgator claims 130% wind powered. Now right off the bat you can clearly tell that something is up with this.. because who the hell can use 130% energy. If you read their explanation it is just carbon offsets purchased. Once you understand the business of a datacenter you will understand that its just not safe or to be off grid. I personally guarantee you that there is no datacenter powered 100% off wind and if there is, no one uses them. Even the new, big, OVH data center is parked next to hydro (again read the link I gave) but they will still bring in the power grid, generators.. etc. Last edited by SPINIKR-RO; 09-22-2012 at 11:25 AM.

No, it's not host gator. I need to research carbon offsets.

I think its basically a trade or exchange of promise. I believe that companies will look at a estimate of consumed power for whatever the projectn say over the yearn or the project span. Money is paid to people who sell the offsets. So say my companies electric bill would be 100 bucks for 12 months. I would pay $150 in offsets (shares) then I could say that we utilize 150% green energy of course you would trust or assume that they also practice "green" in-house things like recycling. The $150 that I gave would go to "green" projects.. like perhaps the construction of hydro or wind farms which reduce negative emissions. I probably also serves as a tax write off (or something). Though thats what I assume it is, not educated on the subject though. Last edited by SPINIKR-RO; 09-22-2012 at 11:54 PM.

I'm looking at Cloud Reseller Hosting. I cannot come up with a good estimate on energy consumption. 10GB Diskspace and 1000 Bandwidth. I have no idea how much kWh is used, nor can my reseller tell me. Any good estimates you can throw at me?
