Posted by LJH, 01-08-2004, 05:32 AM
Hello, I'm a marketing specialist. Recently my boss wants to come into the reseller hosting market and requires a market plan. But I know little about this hosting. So can anyone here offer some suggestion: 1,as I know, there there two kind of reseller hosting: 1)resell resource(the company just provid large space and reseller should be expert in technology and free to divide the product.) 2)reseller hosting packages.(reseller add other service on it or just sell it at a higher price) Is there other kinds of reseller hosting? 2,what's the leading provider according to different kind of reseller hosting? 3,what's the features that reseller care about? Any answer will be great helpful.

Hello LJH, I may be wrong, but I still want to share my experiences. Please correct me if I am doing something wrong. For your questions: - “As I know, there are two kind of reseller hosting….” You will find 2 different programs: affiliate and private label reseller. - affiliate program: you resell your provider hosting packages with their price, but you will have an amount of discount. You get money by discounts. Your provider will take care of customers. - private label reseller: you buy a reseller package from your provider. You have your brand name; you can get your own name servers, maybe hosted on an anonymous server, so your provider will be transparent from your customers. You divide reseller package to many shared packages, you can set your own costs (whatever you like), and sell them to your customers. You will support your customers. The provider is only supporting you, and in some cases, they may send your customers some advices, if you order. - what's the leading provider according to different kind of reseller hosting? Well…. There are many reseller providers in hosting industry. I still remember the signature of someone here: there is no “best” host; there is a host best for you. It says many things. You can choose this or that provider as a good provider, but it’s really difficult to say who the leader is. - what's the features that reseller care about? If you choose affiliate program, you can not do anything without reselling packages. Your provider sets everything up ready. Of course, you have to choose provider ? If you are a private label reseller, you will consider some features such as - configuration of servers, connections: ensure that you will have a good background for good service. - price: if you have better price, you can get more profit, of course ? - supporting service: this is really important. As a hosting reseller, you don’t have much permission on server. If you want to do something required root access, you have to order your provider doing it. And also when your customers ask you something you don’t know, you should contact your provider, and in those cases, a fast response will help your relation ship between you and your customers be better. Hope this can be helped. Regards, Hung Pham
