Hello, You need to check through SSH in flie /etc/group if the username already exists and remove it, then try to create account. Thanks.

Sounds like you're trying to create a user with the same name as a system group/user. Can only guess, not knowing the username.

Actually, confusingly, I saw that message myself when I tried to create a user that already existed, a few days ago. Guess they are checking the group before they check the username!

It's never a good idea to manually edit files like /etc/group, /etc/passwd, etc. Use groupdel

Use a different username as you may end up removing a system user/group.

most probably you are creating a username which existed in the server before and it was not completely terminated. Using groupdel command to terminate the group will be good than manually editing the froup file Vinod

May be the same user was existed before in the server and the termination process of that account was a not successful one. Please check the /etc/group .May be a group is already existed in the same username . If yes, then remove it and try ti create the account again.

I also got this problem. cPanel has a list of black listed names they will not accept. A customer of mine tried to create test.sequencehosting.com and I got the error. This is because cPanel doesn't allow domains with "test" and a few others. Either you tried to add a domain that is on their blacklist or the domain already exists. Hope I helped.

This may also be the problem.

True. @OP: are the UID and GID > 500? If so, it's probably safe to delete the GID if it's no longer in use. If not, you'll be deleting a system group-id, which is not a good idea.

This means the domain name you are trying to create , is already there on your server. Harris

Don't try to edit or delete any files, just make the user name diffrent, also what you might want to do is check all the account that you host and see if you hve any account using the username. Basicly what's that error telling you is that you can't use that because its used already.

Agreed. While you could use groupdel to remove the user, chances are you will end up removing an account that is needed and up doing more harm that good. Just use a different name.
