Great Reseller Stories Here Please

Posted by mouseFX, 12-30-2003, 12:26 AM
All we ever hear are bad stories that people got screwed or burned. How about telling some good stories about resellers in the $30/mth price range. I'm sure that there are some excellent providers that go unpraised.

Posted by Steven, 12-30-2003, 12:30 AM
i haven't used them but ive herd some good things about http://www2.dot5hosting.com/

Posted by The3bl, 12-30-2003, 12:41 AM
You might want to run a search on dot5hosting here, there are plently of threads for you checkout.. Lets stick to host you have used and have first hand knowledge of not ones you've heard about through a friend of a friend.

Doesn't look all rosie for them at all. Try again OK?

Been with them a couple of months, excellent support. Had a little unavoidable downtime recently which was fixed quickly with good communication throughout. They have servers in US and UK which suits me too. Recommended. http://clook.net Before that I had good experiences with http://cybershouts.net , but I have not heard anything about them recently...

well i was with www.perfectpresence.com for 4 years and although he doesnt have the type of reseller plans that you see here, he says he will soon. brian, the owner is a real cool guy, always around and means what he says and says what he means. in 4 years ive never heard the guy say one bad thing about anyone or anything! hes a real stand up kinda guy and i for one appreciate that! 4 years is a long time!

www.diy-hosting.com 3 gig space/20 gigs b/w for $31.95 Beeen with them nearly a month and I am throughly satisified. Pings are in the sub-100 ms range for me and using my own uptime system I haven't seen any downtime. As support goes, -One ticket was responded to in 18 min, when I replied to this, they promptly called me and explained exactly what my problem was -One ticket was responded to in 22 min -One ticket, submitted at 2AM was yet again responded to in less then 30 min They have an excellent system set up where the will give you (at no chagre) a reseller account from enom where you can resell domains for $7. On their site they sell them $10 so they don't compete with you. Their main system uses H-Sphere which includes billing scripts but they just stareted a new program called All-in-one where you get H-Sphere, Cpanel, and then a new control panel each month. I think they are excellent...I'd give them 9.2/10

Posted by Laci, 12-30-2003, 12:34 PM
BlueWho I give them 9/10 across the board , because perfection isnt possible for anyone , they try hard for their clients and are willing to go the extra mile for you. Fast Friendly Support often answered in 2 min great uptime strong business model , if things stay as they are I will be a happy camper

I've been with Hosting Matters for almost 2 years now. They offer reseller accounts that basically allow you to add accounts at a steap discount. The support is AMAZING ! They have an off-network status page - which was helpful during a very very rare down-time ( DOS attack ). Overall - -very professional, great at communicating what's going on -- and always there to help with even outrageous support tickets. http://www.hostingmatters.com/

madshu: http://www.cybershouts.net/ offers unlimited bandwidth. I would stay far away from them. I haven't had any good reseller experiences and I have the knowledge and skills to run my own server so that is what I am doing now.

Posted by madshu, 12-30-2003, 10:58 PM
HScene Mike: I would agree with you there - but Cybershouts don't offer unlimited bandwidth on their reseller accounts - see here: http://cybershouts.net/resellmain.htm Anyway, mouseFX asked about actual positive experiences, and that's what I got from Cybershouts. Mostly I was impressed with the support and help I got from them when it was time for me to move *away* from them - they had no incentive to help me out, but they still did, a lot.

Posted by CaroNet-Hesham, 12-31-2003, 04:47 AM
Actually as madshu explained, we don't offer unlimited bandwidth on any of our reseller packages as well as Shared hosting as well, there's nothing called Unlimited Bandwidth..it's a resourse, and all resources have limits. The maximum bandwdith we're currently offering is 100GB for resellers and 20GB for shared hosting.

I have resller accounts at four different companies and without doubt the very best of these are UnitedHosting at $34 a month. I will be moving all my domains across as and when they expire at the other companies. Fantastic price for a fantastic level of support - highly recommended.

My reseller is with i-NetSolutions, soon to be a dedicated at that. Right before Christmas, they had one of those 'everything that could go wrong, did' weeks, and spent their entire Christmas working on it, rather than continuing with their normal plans. So like in a few other threads, my suggestions go to them.

Grap, I'm curious, who are the other three that you are moving from? What made UnitedHosted better than the others? And how long have you been with UnitedHosting? I, too, am looking for a new home for my sites. Since I don't have to sift through all the whitenoisecrap like when people were still allowed to advertise here on wht, there seems to be a few hosts rising to the surface in this $30-$35 range. UnitedHosting is one of them. The others, IMO, in no certain order...Rochen, HTTPme, Dathorn, BlueWho. I guess I'm just doing the homework. Or rather, asking for help on it. How would y'all compare these five? I've spent hours reading posts on them but no ones compared them yet. Thanks!

Posted by grap, 12-31-2003, 08:43 PM
I have experience with only one of the four you mentioned and to be honest have never heard of two of them at all :-) Of the other three I have used I have the following experiences; xcalibre.co.uk - wonderful people (great accents), excellent support and very fast, but very expensive when compared to others, very expensive for resellers. rapidhoster.co.uk - cost effective, good support and fast to respond, hoever, the service has been up and down over the past 9 months and I have experieced four significant and memorable outages. dathorn.com - good support and costs ok but again outages were too much to take, not healthy With UnitedHosting I have had no outages, all support has been quick - often in seconds and certainly in minutes across the board. Nice people, dedicated to hosting well. costs are keen, particuarly with the level of support you get with them. I have only been with them for 3 months but the level of support has been constant and as fast throughout this period as it was before I took the account. I can only say from my personal experience (and that of my clients) that UnitedHosting is the way to go for resellers Hope this helps and good luck in whatever host you choose Happy New Year Last edited by grap; 12-31-2003 at 09:15 PM.

Thanks, and Happy New Year to you too. Thanks for the thoughts on UH. I've been with Dathorn but not the others. Nice costs, however, I tend to be a little needy. The forums were chock full of information for sure and they know what they're doing which is important. However, I left for 'greener pastures' seeking a little more 'hand holding' and now I'm paying for it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of review on Rochen in these forums so I'm still wanting to hear more about them. Also their forums are locked to the general public. Bummer. The little that I've read here about them seems to be positive overall, however. I'm also very interested in HTTPme. I've been reading everything over at their forums and they are chock full. Also, the .COMmunity seems to be very helpful and open. Can anyone givec some insight on HTTPme and Rochen I would be very grateful. Thanks. Last edited by aLTEreCHo; 12-31-2003 at 11:23 PM.

Rochen - Rochen HTTPme - Aussie Bob UnitedHosting - UH-Matt You can do a post search on them for some more info, they're all active around here.

Thanks, DanX. Opps, I think I must've edited after you replied. Darn dial up! Like I said, there doesn't seem to be a lot of reviews on Rochen and I'd really like to hear how they compare with HTTPme. Very helpful for me to read HTTPme's forums to get a glimpse on what things are like there but I'd really like to know more about Rochen and how they compare. Both seem to be very reliable, great support, good technical knowledge etc. The host I'm with had great reviews when I did a search on them, but after going with them I learned that it was a lot of hot air. Thanks for any insights.

Try a google search on the host, often times that will turn up warts or praise not seen here. Remember as good as WHT is it is not the end of the hosting world.

Hm... my reseller hosting is banned here. It's kinda weird though because their support is great (a little slow lately... but no server problem so it's fine by me) and their server is fast.

Posted by UH-Matt, 01-01-2004, 08:45 AM
I wouldnt worry too much. Just because they are banned doesnt always make them a bad host.

Posted by STH-Peter, 01-02-2004, 01:15 AM
I've been with UnitedHosting for about a month. It's early but my server has been fast and their support is top notch. I will be moving all my clients to their servers over the next few months. - gpb

Techark, Do you have anything postive to add? I think that's the subject of this thread.

Posted by The3bl, 01-02-2004, 02:31 AM
If you have a problem with my post as the Liaison for this forum and the guidelines I set down for this thread you are welcome to email mods@webhostingtalk.com.

Nothing wrong with your post Techark, you were just stating what anyone would regarding recommending a host you haven't used. I have "heard good things" about many hosts, but as I have no personal experience, I wouldn't recommend them.

We are with SRLNet.com (aka srlhosting.com) , I've posted about them a few times before, but I'll quote something I posted earlier today in their internal forums. It was in response to a New Years "best wishes" post somebody else made to Rob, the owner. Its late where I am so I won't blabber on, but I've been very happy with them.

Posted by lcd, 01-02-2004, 03:06 PM
I agree, SRLhosting is one of the best. We hope it stays that way !

Ahhh...bow to the google. *slaps forehead* Why didn't I think of that?! Thanks, will do. I guess to actually add value to this thread, keeping the original the purpose in mind, my first host was with a company called The Hosting Group. Went with them about a year and a half ago. Haven't seen anything about them on these forums. I gotta say the whole experience wasn't too bad. Toll free number for support. Which I called alot. Never had trouble getting through. Always picked up on the first or second ring and they always gave true support. Rates were a little funny...I paid $14-ish for my own resellers account, then for every customer I hosted I had to pay an additional $10-ish. Of course I set my own rates and always made money but you can see why I switched to another host. It did get expensive the more people I hosted. Overall, however, I never-never had any problems with anything. I was with them for almost a year. If it wasn't for the cost-thing I'd give them a 9/10.

I've always had good experiences with splashost.com and lehost.net. Both had really good costs and their support wasn't to bad.

Posted by Datawalke, 01-03-2004, 06:48 PM
I got a plan off of ebay awhile back. $20/mo it was really nice. I don't remember the URL though. :\

Posted by NibiruAnubis, 01-03-2004, 10:11 PM
Wow, I didn't think to many people purchased services like web hosting on eBay.. i'll check that out EDITED: nevermind, those costs are insane... i'd stay away from most of those... $2.00 for 1gb/space and 100gb/bandwidth is a tad scary

Agreed, any other liason/mod/sherrif/cop/rentacop/queen/president/royalty would agree with me. From personal experience I would definitely recommend (in no order) HTTPme.COM Idologic.com Clook.net I have read great reviews about the following web host resellers Kualo.com Simpli.biz BlueWho.com Rochen.com Here's my checklist for researching prospective web hosts: Search WHT by the domain name, Search WHT by the web hosts username (e.g. clook.net would be Jim_UK), search Google, search HostHideOut.com, search the WHT offers forum here to see if they are currently offering any specials/sales, check out the web hosts forums, post a dozen questions in their pre-sales forum at a very obscure time of day (3AM) and see how quickly they respond and if they answer all of your questions Listen to your gut Hope this helps and best of luck with your search Remember "you get what you pay for" is 100% true. You want a web host who gives a damn and is in the market to make a profit and cares about their business. Ross

I'd advise you stick clear of hosting on Ebay. Lots of scammers and fraudulent offers and mosts "hosts" that advertise on Ebay seem desperate for customers.

After going from a dedicated server to reseller via a large Chicago based server company (who are well known here and were so bad it was laughable), I went to Ebart.net. Even when the chips were down they were helpful and informative and not afraid to give bad news. I have been with them for over six months.

Try RSMHosts .. they are pretty approachable and offer good support too.

Posted by grafikat, 01-14-2004, 01:30 AM
voxtreme.com has excellent support (true 24/7) and a very active forum community to help the newbie reseller and established pro alike. I've been with them for a year and still luv 'em.
