How to settle this issue?

Hello everyone. I have a dedicated server that I have been paying for since the last December. I have paid all my invoices using PayPal so far but it's not available in my country (I live in Turkey) anymore, so I started using my virtual credit card for online purchases. The server is up, there's no problem here. I opened a ticket and asked them how can I pay using my credit card. They sent me a credit card authorization form where I need to enter my credit card details and security code (3 digit one). They also want me to send a photo of my credit credit card and ID proof, but I'm already an existing customer, have been paying my invoices for months. I told them that I am not a new customer and I use my virtual credit card so I can't show it to them, but I can send them my ID as long as they accept a watermark on it states that it's only, and only for them to verify my ID. I also added a note, states that I can send them an international wire (it'll cost me $25-30 for a $54 server) for this month but I'd be leaving them after this month since it'll be very expensive for me to keep paying like that. It has been 20 hours but I haven't got a reply yet. I won't give the company name since I don't want to hurt their business, just wanted to create a thread and know what you think about it. Is this a common practice? Last edited by tmrd; 07-02-2016 at 09:56 AM.

Yes .. Its a common practice. When you pay with credit card a credit authorization has to be filled by you. this is actually to avoid any fraud transactions and to make sure your that the provider is being PAID from the right person and that they are authorized to charge the credit card. This way you will be assured about your billing and the provider will get PAID on right time. Many data centers follow the same way in order to charge their clients.

Maybe try to follow up again and maybe they will give you some exception depending on how much they trusted you.

or depending on how much you spend, I doubt they give you an exception for a $54 order

I agree. $54 is not that much and I am sure they will consider it.

Most companies' billing departments only work regular office hours (9:00-5:00) Monday-Friday.

While it might be a common pratice as others stated, I doubt I would ever do that. From what you say, it seems they would have absolutely all the necessary personal informations to make transactions using your own credit card. It might never happen, but what if some employee has dubious morals and is in need of cash and decide to serve himself? Some web hosting companies are so shady... and some employees are equally. It's not really an industry that have the reputation to have good ethics in general AFAIK (ofc I don't generalize either, but some fit that description). Not to mention identity theft and stuff.. It is July 4th (Independence Day holiday) here in the US so many Billing Depts. will be closed until tomorrow.

New customer or not, you still have to follow the rules. If you don't want to give them the info they need , find another way to pay. As others have mentioned, it's the weekend. Most billing departments are off until tomorrow, but don't be surprised if you don't hear back from someone until Wednesday given the long weekend

Give it another day or two and let us know how this was handled/resolved. Good luck to you, sir.

I'm in the US and been a Datashack (Nocix) client for years with no issues. Saturday I added a new credit card and they asked for scans of the credit card (front and back) and driver's license. No problem - but billing is closed till Tuesday. Hopefully your host can work around your virtual credit card - what they really want is confidence that you are who you say you are and that your payment won't bounce or charge back.

I ended up uploading everything they wanted to, they looked very determined to me. Thanks for your replies.

Are company's allowed to ask for scans of credit cards? Is that not breaking PCI regulation?

Should cover credit card numbers and only reveal the last few ones
