cPanel change multiple MX records

Posted by orchardhosting, 11-16-2009, 03:45 AM
Hi, Is there a way in WHM or via SSH to change multiple MX records? Ideally, I'd like to do a find and replace, where I could remove completely, or change the record depending on my search? Thanks Tom

There is no way to do this via cPanel/WHM. Via SSH, you will have to write a custom script in order to achieve what you need. There's no automated option anywhere.

Thanks, can you give me any pointers on to go about doing this? For a start, where are the records stored? Is it by domain or in one large file? Thanks

The MX records for individual domains are located in the corresponding DNS zone file. The DNS zone file for a domain can be found at /var/named/domainname.com.db The same can be done via WHM >> DNS functions >> Edit DNS Zone Note: Do not make any changes if you do not have enough knowledge.

Thanks, I'll give writing a script a go to do this, else I'll be there for days doing individual records.

Do remember to take a backup of those zone files before touching them. Also once the MX records are changed, restart named/bind.
