Has any one been with theses Guy's (or Gal's) for a good period of time (at least 6 months). I just wanted to know if they were a wise choice to go for? If anyone could anyone give me a heads up on this, I would appreciate it very much...thanks.

Do a search, you'll find plenty of comments regarding them.

So I take that as a no then. I have looked at several different sites, with loads of different versions of peoples views about them, I just thought that someone in one of the forums could give me a helping hand. But thanks for your input.

If you have already searched the forums then wait a bit! HostGator has a very good rep here and people will come to speak of them!

Many thanks for your input UnifiedNet, most appreciated.

I've been a very outspoken advocate for HostGator for some time now. I've been with them for about eight months as a reseller. My customers love the speed, they've all praised their hosting for reliability, and I've had nothing but excellent customer service from day one. They are very fast to respond and very good at answering questions and resolving issues. They aren't the lowest priced reseller on the market, but when you factor in the level of support and speed/reliability, they are by far the best value I've found, dollar for dollar. I recommend them highly, so highly, I recently moved from monthly payments to yearly. That's a big leap in trust for me! Good luck making your final decision. There may be others comparable or possibly better than HG for your needs, but you will not have done yourself wrong if you chose to go with them right now - they are a safe choice. Try them on a monthly basis until you're comfortable with your decision or you decide you want to go elsewhere.

Like the_pm, I've often posted my opinion about Hostgator. After 10 months of using Hostgator's shared hosting I'm still very happy with their service, which is a testament of their level of service. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search...der=descending You'll see some negative reviews, but after reading the threads thoroughly you'll find that most things were in fact handled correctly by Hostgator.

Almost three months now and very happy.

redone, I gather you haven't experienced any down time?

Posted by the_pm, 11-09-2004, 11:54 AM
If a host guarantees 99.9% uptime, that means the servers can go down for about 43 minutes every month (is my math right?). Of course there will be a little downtime here and there. I've only seen two hosts who were able to give 100% uptime (so far), and they both start at $50/mo. for shared plans. I've experienced downtime, but nothing that's lead me to be concerned. Usually, it's taken care of right away, but if I happen to see it when it happens and I IM a tech, it's usually fixed within a minute or two.

the_pm, why thank you very much for that, most informative.

Also, a 99.9% uptime guarantee means you'll receive either a full or prorated or some other kind of refund if the host fails to reach that promised level in a particular month. You need to check that with the host (either ask directly or read their Terms of Service). If my memory serves me right Hostgator gives a full refund for the month.

Except for sales support, their tech support is present all the time (24/7). But some things you need to be explicit about it, like you have to ask , then only you will get it. I remember when I last had my account setup. I really dont know what to do next. Although you see that your package is suppose to be bundled with WHM AP, you have to ask , in order to get your license key , and other related stuff. To the key word is ....ask. =) Joshua

We have been with HG for about 6 months now. First shared and now with a reseller account although all of our sites are internal at this point. We've been very pleased with the performance. Their servers are located at The Planet in TX and we have had much better performance with them than with previous hosts. Just do a simple ping on their site and then compare the times with other hosts. We have experienced short downtime here and there, but nothing more than a few minutes that we are aware of. We use a website monitoring service, and to give you an idea, the last report of any type of outage was almost 2 months ago. We haven't really used support much, but have always gotten through when needed. A word of advice would be to use their forums if not time critical, or their email support, or use the toll free number if it's time critical. The chat support has been a sore spot for them in the past but it looks as though its been getting better recently. The chat folks are outsourced I believe to people other than the ones you get in FL when you call the toll free number. The folks in FL know what they're doing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone at this point. Hope this helps. David
