FTP Connection problem

Hi, I'm running pure-ftpd and when my server has alot of traffic (10mb a second +) I can't seem to connect to FTP at all. This sometimes affects shell logins as well but mainly just FTP. Any suggestions or help?

Sounds like the network i/o is getting overwhelmed by the traffic. Are the FTP connections transferring large files or do you just have a lot of connections? If you users are pulling large files, you might want to try throttling the FTP bandwidth so it doesn't impact the server so much.
