Apps to help me stay organized?

I'm about to start by business up, I feel that I have pretty competitive plans and costs. I'm starting it up with a guy who does web design, so we will have a plus for clients. If someone buys a design from the guy, I offer a deal on one of my plans for his client. If I sell hosting, he offers a deal on a design. Anyways, we are looking around for stuff that we really need before we start. We need something that will keep track of clients, when their payments are due, if they have paid, what plan thay are on, how much space/bandwidth they have used, and being capable of mass or single e-mailing the clients. If we don't find something to help us, we will have to use WHM, outlook express, some type of calendar, and paypal seperately, and we want to find something that can combine them, or at least halfway do what we want. I tried messing with ACT! but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

To be honest, you do not need a bunch of fancy app's to perform this. Recently, we switched our office core system to run on SuSE Linux Enterprise. This gives you all the tools needed to manage customer bases, et al We also combine this with using QuickBooks (online) for complete management. The combination of the two couldn't be sweeter. Simon

Thanks, I appreciate your help. I'll definately check into getting that OS installed on my server to check it out. Any more help is also appreciated. EDIT: Is there any way I can aset it up yo remind clients x number of days before their payment is due and automatically charge them when the time comes. Automatically add late fees until they pay, and/or automatically suspend their account. Last edited by BrendonW; 11-06-2004 at 04:06 PM.

You need a billing system to accomplish that. Lots out there, whoiscart, modernbill, clientexec, etc. Alternately you can make your own, or just track it manually using a spreadsheet program

Yeah, I but I don't want manual. It's all about automation lol Actually, I've been trying out QuickBooks online and you can set it up to automatically bill people thru there.

I agree with IHSL, to keep track of clients you just need an Excel spreadsheet and to keep billing organized use 2CO and PayPal subscriptions. If your business really takes off, switching over from Excel to QuickBooks may be worth your time. Just my two cents.

LPanel.net automatically creates accounts (in WHM) at signup. I have used this program and I highly recommend it for the features.

I don't own the servers though. I don't think I could use this since the guy who I get my hosting which I resell uses lpanel also. You can't have a lpanel account under another lpanel account can you?

Maby for orginizing contacts, but a spreadsheet will work much better, that or some kind of database software would work well to. If your a windows user look at access. You can create nice looking easy to use frontends for your databases. Lots of fun.

Best advise I can give you - especially if youre just starting out - get the right control panel - H-Sphere - it integrates everything for you. Customer management, plan management, billing, invoicing, domain names, helpdesk, etc, etc, etc Hope this helps

What you're asking here is very general... There's tons of software out there than could keep you stay organized, but it really depends on your taste... For some, outlook and a billing system is fine, and for some, they want quickbook, outlook, modernbill, and along with an external intranet such as taskspro; better yet, using Copper 2004. However, if you're just starting out, I would seriously recommend you to have taskspro; or equivalent, and modernbill.
