GeoIP with HAproxy?

Posted by kamal_s, 07-04-2010, 10:09 AM
I am interested in implementing something similar to this to a client who has video sharing site. Currently the site has like 5 media streaming servers are randomly chosen by web server and streams the data. This doesn't help for people in Asia/europe as they get usa servers the most and its not effective way to stream. I was looking in to configuring Haproxy on master streaming server and direct traffic to different region based on where the user coming from. The streams are done using lighttpd/mod_streaming so apache is out of question here but i see modules for geoip is only available for apache. Does haproxy has this feature where it detects the client ip and then sent traffic to the server we mention. or is there another way? CDN is too expensive at this time so I am trying to setup my own cdn. your input would be greatly appreciated.
