EU and US Dedicated Server Recommendations

Posted by ccalby, 07-01-2016, 05:09 PM
Evening All, I'm looking for a bit of advise. I need a server of a spec similar to this: CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1240 (OR GREATER) RAM: 24GB Hard Drives: 3x1TB (RAID 5 Hardware) IPs: 32 (on vLAN) Bandwidth: More than 3TB Uplink: 1Gbps Dedicated IPMI assigned to IP: YES And a host with EU (preferably) or US location. If possible, a host with both would be fantastic! I don't want to go with a host who uses a provider with bad reviews; such as OVH. Price wise, the cheaper the better without compromising a fast, reliable & secure network. Power redundancy and teir 1 network carriers with quality hardware. So, If anyone has a experience with a host whom meets these criteria, you're suggestions would be appreciated. I'm struggling to find any on the Dedicated Servers Offers forum which aren't all fairly new companies. Many Thanks, Conor

you can look for limestonenetworks or quadranet as there are from US

There are plenty of providers that could fit your needs. One suggestion, it's never a good idea to have IPMI on a public IP.

Well, if you can provide bit more details about budget, it'll be easier to help !

You should check out SingleHop. We've been with them for over a year and are fairly happy -- they aren't the cheapest around but neither are they the most expensive, and they have a highly reliable network (I can't recall any downtime over the past year that wasn't my own fault). Plus, they have locations in both US and EU, as you want. Just note, their support isn't always the fastest (it varies, depending on who the tech is that you get), so if you need fully managed services, you may want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, SingleHop is great.

Well what budget you are looking at and what contents will be hosted on this server. Would you be able to provide justification for the 32 IPs you have mentioned. Providers will first ask for the justification for the IP usages so it depends where you can rent the server in USA or in EU.

The config is not that complex, but the IPs might be a problem with some providers. Make sure to tell them you need 32 IPs and you have a justification ready also. What budget range are you looking at?

Thanks for all your replies. I want to keep the budget below $170 - $200 (~ £140) I will be visualizing the servers for development, sandboxing and various other projects. Many Thanks, Conor

RAM config is a problem. Will 16gb or 32 gb RAM goes?

These requirements are no way cheap :-)

@ccalby Conor, the IP block itself would cost something, around $30, so you'd be able to get a decent solution for $200 - $250 per month, I guess. Do you have any preference about location in terms of networking. Where your will be coming from?

Piecing all of your requirements into a package will be tough with that budget, especially with the number of IP addresses that you're asking for. Have you narrowed down your list at all yet?

Where in the US are you looking? Maybe narrow down your cities a bit more.

Have you searched the offers section of the forum? I'm sure if you contacted any provider they can give you a quote, the specs you are asking for are not special.

You will get good server in that budget but the only issue is IP range you are looking for. You have to provide justification for that much IP's.

I'm sure there will be quite a few providers that can help you out with this, as others have said the main issue you will have with be with the IP addresses and the cost involved there will be around £30 p/m to start with.

Voxility provides such services in both EU and US.
