Subdomains not working on a cPanel server

Posted by The.Watcher, 10-18-2008, 10:40 AM
Subdomains not working on a cPanel server 1st I thought it could be a DNS issue but now I'm stumped. As the domain works fine. The subdomain has been configured via the users cpanel. But can't be accessed at all. Any 1 please care to shed some helpful thoughts? Many thanks in advance.

Subdomains need time to propogate. How long have you been waiting for? __________________█ Professional Hosting Website Designer/Developer█ I have hosting domains for sale. Last edited by Harzem : 10-18-2008 at 11:29 AM.

Check the configured sub domains pinging inside the server, if so then the sub domains need time to propagate. __________________█• AssistanZ.com ~ Server Management and Web hosting Support Company•█ Expertised in Linux, Windows, Server Security and Admin Tasks █• Call Us: +1-734-661-2392 - Outsourced Support Team AZ Steps into 5th Year in Outsourced Support

Both dig subdomain.domain.name and ping subdomain.domain.name are fine.

First test, dig yahoo.com or whatever you like and if it resolves fine then your resolv.conf is fine. Check your zone files for the subdomain entries, you can find them under /var/named/domane.name __________________█• AssistanZ.com ~ Server Management and Web hosting Support Company•█ Expertised in Linux, Windows, Server Security and Admin Tasks █• Call Us: +1-734-661-2392 - Outsourced Support Team AZ Steps into 5th Year in Outsourced Support

Try a full restart of the server, could be a bug in your cPanel Installation. Or send a ticket to cPanel and ask them to fix it.

Been there and done that with the restarts. I'll seek cPanel help when I can't work out a solution myself coz I think it's just a simple misconfiguration. That's why I'm here.. Cat /etc/cpupdate.conf This command will let you know the version of cpanel you are using, I would suggest to use the stable version of cpanel. If you have any versions other than stable just change it to stable and run /scripts/upcp, this will fix the bugs.

Have you checked the permissions on the subdomain subdirectory within the public_html directory? They ought to be 755 and your public_html ought to be 750.

Remember, if you create a subdomain (sub.domain.com) it creates a folder called /sub (or the name of the subdomain in the user's public_html). Try running But if you're missing the folder of the subdomain in public_html that the subdomain created, it could be a permissions thing.

It should be checked in step by step way. 1. Check whether the sub domain is resolving. If No - Check the DNS configuration for the subdomain. If yes - check the configuration for the subdomain. May be some apache(web server) restart will fix the issue. :-)

Have you updated the cpanel/WHM? I have had the same issue after updating the whm. Could not find any fix for this problem but may be cpanel people can fix it for you.
