Not to knock on alabanza, many of us got our start there, but this was posted on FC a few days ago; Alacasam Rumor has it Alabanza has cut staff again. Several FC reports say the company is so broke they got their last paychecks from Bulk Register, Alabanza sister firm. If Alabanza closes its doors a half million sites may be snuffed out without warning. When: 12/20/2004 Company: Alabanza Severity: 90 Points: 190

This is baloney. We've been with Alabanza for years and were at there NOCs (just opened a brand new one due to growth) a few months back. They have had some service issues a few years ago but we are very happy with the way the treat us and their excellent support.

Nice way to open a year old thread, but from what I hear Alabanza is still overpriced compared to the market even if they have a great product and are growing strong. The service issues I think you are referring to are the two outages (for 2 consecutive years) they had because they had to shut off the power to the building and they didn't have diesel generators. They were good in their day but I think they are many more options in today's market with choice of control panels and managed providers who also offer excellent service at a better price, I guess this backed by many large and small hosting companies leaving Alabanza over time.

I know some hosts had big issues and could not resolve them to their satisfaction. Yes, Alabanza is expensive compared to a lot of other sources but I find the system, Control Panel and especially the billing softwrae to be outstanding. We have server at 3 other NOCs and Alabanza is as good as any and better than all but 1. Mix in the billing software and it's worth extra cost to us. Not saying it's for everybody but, for us, it has been a great experience.

The reason I think many left is not just pricing, but many hosts were limited in offering more resources to their customers because they themselves were limited in what the server could hold, and there was not really a good upgrade path so the only thing to do was to leave which allow hosts to offer the 1-10GB disk / 100GB bandwidth shared plans you see today, which wasn't possible with ala. I know I was talking to a host who left them about a year ago who said they saved about $10K a month and were able to increase all plan's resources ten fold.

You are definitely right on that. But, we do not offer the "big" plans at our Alabanza site. We have servers eleswhere that allow us to do the larger sites but we handle all our billing thru our Alabanza system. Works well for us. We do have the majority of our clients on Alabanza and can offer most things they want. ASP, JSP, Cold Fusion etc. Our prices at Alabanza have continued to come down each year and they are making an effort to adjust to the market place but they (nor we) want to go head to head with the "big & cheap" hosts. We are growing well be offering tight service and support.

Alabanza does have a good billing system and it's nice you can now use outside servers through it, also nice to know that they adjust costs every year, this was not the case ~5 years ago.

Hi Buzz! I thought I'd chime in. Alabanza is not cheap. That's not their market. However, for the money, you get in one place most of the things hosts end up going to several places for. When we first started with Alabanza we needed an automated system that didn't require much technical knowledge or experience -- that made it a good fit for us. Today, our priorities are security, uptime, system administration, support, customer service, automated billing, backups, price. Which is why we're still at Alabanza. As for the snafus mentioned earlier. Yes, Alabanza has made some bone headed mistakes. And they've also made a great deal of improvements over the years to prevent those mistakes from biting them again. There are a lot of GREAT hosting options out there. When we compare Alabanza to the other options, we'd save money elsewhere, but not enough to make the jump. There's a lot of value at Alabanza. One of the best is to be able to compete head to head with Buzzard! Arf

Don't you think rumors would have changed after two years?

Not without the input from people who actually use the service.

I have never dealt with them myself, but that rumor should not be true because they are still alive and kicking. They do not look like a budget provider to me, so it is very natural not being cheap. It's just not what they are looking for. I respect Alabanza very much by the way. I always have seen them around since I started to surf online.
