Selling vps from my server?

Posted by FallenAngel23, 07-12-2016, 06:12 PM
I have two servers each with: 2x xeon x5550 20 gb ram 250gb 7.2 rpm hdd The problem is i have an extremely slow internet speed (10 mbs down 1 mbs up) and i only have 1 ip and i cant get more. I know i need more drives for a raid 10 or something, but this is what i currently have. Can i do it? I was thinking of using some private proxies to replace the need of ips from my isp (which my isp cant give), but is that even possible? and if so, how? Also were would i even sell them? Will people buy them ? What do you think? Please give me your opinions/ideas. Thank you.

Based on your bandwidth speed I don't think you will be able to find customers that will sign up for that. With that speed are you hosting that server at your house?

I have to concur with @CentexHosting as at that speed, it'll be increasingly difficult to acquire clients. Not to discourage you, but there are thousands of web hosting providers offering 100Mbps connections right now. What would be your unique selling proposition?

Maybe you should consider colocation. That way you get the 100Mbps / 1000Mbps port speed with the servers.

Buy VPS from you? NO. It is best to collocate it to the real data center or rent a server from the data center instead.

I think you best bet starting out would be: 1. Assuming you don't have the money for more hard drives, take both drives and put them in 1 server with RAID-1. With that little amount of hard drive space, you wont be able to come close to maxing out specs on one server with VPS's. 2. Find a data center near you that is cheap, but will provide you with decent reliability and an IP range. 3. There are lots of ways of selling a VPS, like this forum, and others like it. 4. Your first profit should be upgrading HDD space. Upgrading to a 4/5 decent sized drives and with RAID-5/6 will be good for one server probably. 5. Repeat for the second server.
