We have finally finalized the server components for our shared clients. Here is the list, Intel Xeon E3-1281 v3 Quad-core (4 Core) 3.70 GHz Processor - Socket H3 LGA-1150 Pack CM8064601575329 by Intel SUPERMICRO CSE-813MTQ-350CB Black 1U Rackmount Server Chassis Supermicro X9SCM-F Motherboard 2 x SuperMicro 16GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Memory Model MEM-DR316L-SL04-ER16 SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 512GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE512BW Western Digital WD RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive Is it all we need ? Or did I miss anything ? Do we need to buy a hardware RAID controller too ? My vendor says, you need this, "HighPoint RocketRAID 2680SGL 8-Channel PCI-Express x4 SAS 3Gb/s RAID Controller"

You don't use RAID for your shared clients? SAMSUNG 850 PRO 2.5" 512GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7KE512BW Western Digital WD RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive I can see 1 x SSD and 1 x HDD.

Im new to this. You may suggest.. SSD will be used for OS, SSD hosting clients in 1st server. 2nd server will be only my websites, So the SSD will have OS, MySQL, files, everything. And only one 2TB HDD as daily backup drive only in RAID10. Did I miss anything ? BTW, do I need a hardware RAID controller ? Its looks very expensive!

The motherboard and CPU are not compatible. You need a X10SLL-F - http://www.supermicro.com/products/m...0/X10SLL-F.cfm I would honestly recommend going with a E3 V5 CPU instead. It's faster, more efficient, and uses DDR4 RAM without any increase in cost. You don't need a RAID controller if you aren't doing RAID. Make sure you keep regular backups!!! I think for every web host, RAID is mandatory. SO, may be have to purchase it Means, we have to buy a RAID controller for every server we purchase ? Thank god, you saved me! Yes, will go for V5 CPU and DDR4 RAM Last edited by Ash; 07-11-2016 at 02:58 AM.

The E3 V5 uses the X11SSL-F motherboard. For RAID, you don't need a RAID card, you can setup software RAID within the OS.

The mother board you linked says only compatible with v3 and v4. v5 isnt listed

Take a look at the post directly above yours.

Ok thank god, software RAID should be fine, I guess. Or do you strongly suggest to get hardware raid ?

I think you should speak with a provider (who you'll be colocating with) who can help you design the servers you'll be purchasing and who could perhaps sell you the hardware, and build it for you and design it primarely around supermicro componets they use for their own inventory so that if you ever witness failures, you know they will have spares available for sale. Obviously, just make sure that's an option with the. Out of curiosity, what made you go with 4x 8GB DIMMs vs 2x 16GB for example? Also why did you go with a DUAL PSU Chassis and a Single Proc for your own sites? I doub't you're getting A+B power, or will be making use of the DUAL PSU's nor am I understanding why you can't go with a modern E3v5 for your "own sites" as it'll provide the same performance essentially as this single E5.

And since this is in the "dedicated server" section; if you plan on "renting" the hardware, just get in touch with a reputable provider who can design the machine based on your resource requirements. It appears a provider will be your best help in either situation - then you can run their hardware proposal through these forums if you still need the additional approvals/confidence before moving forward.

IM placing the servers in my IDC itself.

Can you give me 2 config (for shared hosting clients + my now websites server), as this is my 1st purchase and I have to import it from singapore to India. So, dont want to make the mistake of a wrong component please.

You will need a minimum of 4x2TB hdd to build a raid 10 array.
