Site5 - Problems..

Posted by domaincart, 05-17-2006, 01:29 PM
Hi We purchased our second reseller account from Site5 today. They opened our account soon. But they had not created the private name servers. Then I connected into the WHM(connection is very slow). I saw many errors on the status page of WHM(most of the features was show as false). Also Server Load was show 23.62 (4 cpus) and Disk sda8 (/home) was 95 % and Disk sda2 (/usr) was 82 % Now the server is down for hours. I have contacted with them to calcel the order. I no longer recommend Site5. Now we are looking for a new reliable provider. I know these companies as reliable: 1. Surfspeedy 2. Hostgator 3. Hostdime 4. Liquidweb/Sonet7(but they don't accept customers from my country). I have searched them in this forum and found good or bad posts for all of them. But I could't decided. Which campany is the better than others? I need your recommendations. Thank you Last edited by domaincart; 05-17-2006 at 01:35 PM.

23.62 is very high load. It looks like they are overselling too much. I didn't see many reviews about Hostdime service in this forum. What are your requirements and budget? Maybe someone can recommend a better host

Just for curiosity, where are you from?

Sadly, Site5 loses a serious, consistent supporter. IMO a first step to take is to decide on price bracket. On average, one should expect service according to the amount he's paying. The hosts you mentioned are pretty varied price wise, especially if you consider whether they enable overselling for resellers or not (which BTW is something to take into account).

I would cross off Surfspeedy from your list. They oversell even more compared to Site5.

Our requirements: Linux Based 15GB disk space 130GB/month bandwith 100 domains host WHM/RvSkins Private Name Servers Our budget is $60/month max. Surfspeedy and Hostdime offers looks good. But I don't know that uptime of their servers really(Surfspeedy said %99.9 and Hostdime said %99.5). Their offers maybe untrue. So I need your recommendations urgently. Thank you very much for your replies.

Thank you. How is Hostdime?

I have had personal experience with a hostdime tech. Based on that, I would not recommend them. Like ldcdc mentioned. You should begin researching more thoroughly to find a competent host..

Reading the forums here clearly shows that Site5 services are degrading. From your list I would choose HostGator as most stable/reliable.

The overselling levels at both hosts differ from their shared to their reseller hosting packages. The reseller hosting packages are quite significantly more rationally priced -- not that this is necessarily a guarantee of better service/performance.

I was actually sad when I added them to the list Dan. Sad... It reminded me of the old Cyberwing days when there was a financial investment that was minor compared to the emotional investment. The truth is that I can't recommend them to people any longer even if recommending them meant I lost a sale but sent someone on to host with someone for something I wasn't comfortable providing. Sad really. KGIII

Sorry dhcart, I think you need a larger budget or lower your requirements in order to accomodate and receive reliable, performance based application hosting.

Your budget seems fair. You are getting to the top of the reseller market (package size wise) maybe it would be best for you to go straight to a dedicated server. You can get a decent server with cpanel/rvskins for under a hundred bucks. This would leave you room to grow and allow you to sell reseller packages if you would like to be in that market.

Look at all of the reseller providers that have been around for awhile and have been proven to offer realiable sustainable service - this budget is too low - once you factor in that the customer will be hosting 100% applications - and this becomes even more obvious So essentially, the budget isnt high enough right? No, you can get a decent "budget"server for that money. Lets forget about any sort of redundancy, backup/recovery, server management, etc...

You can recommend these providers to dhcart

LOL I would suggest you take a look at httpme.com However, for the type of application you are hosting, you should really look at something clustered. Take a look at hsphere reseller providers. Simply put, a cluster will offer you alot more resiliancy and performance. Hope this helps...

Thank you very much for all responses. But I still did not find a reliable provider. Because I saw a lot of good and bad reviews for all companies. Also I saw that most companies do overselling(maybe all of them). I liked Hostdime's offers. Because I think they have their own a data center and they provide VPS and Managed Dedicated Server solutions too. We may upgrade our reseller account to VPS or Dedicated. But I don't know that how is their uptime really. Also have micfo.com Their support looks fast(they replied my questions within minutes). They say that provide 99.9% network uptime guarantee. But we don't know that how is their servers uptime. I could not believe reliability of their offers Have you any experience with micfo.com (for only reseller plans)? Other companies that I know as reliable: virtuosonetsolutions.com webreseller.net energizedhosting.com jaguarpc.com autica.com Please write your experiences in here and recommend a company. Thank you again.

The server load is 42.77 at this time! Site5's some customers sending large amount spam emails on the server. Site5 had not monitor their servers. I had informed the security problems and the errors that on the server to Site5's customer service yesterday. But they could not fix it and did not give me an answer yet.
