cPanel remote FTP backup isn't secure
Posted by radium1200, 10-14-2011, 05:01 PM I use cPanel's remote FTP backup, which runs on a schedule and has been great, but it's not SFTP and the backups aren't password protected. After reading this I'm starting to think I need to go a different route. What is the most secure, automated method of backing up client data to a remote, offsite server? The servers are at SoftLayer and they offer Evault & Lockbox, but I've never used either.

Posted by ultrabizweb, 10-14-2011, 06:04 PM I use rsnapshot it seems to work fairly well. Does require some configuration though. Nice rotating backups with links to save disk space. I setup backup to a directory on the cPanel server but could be a network mount or hard drive mount. Then I rsnapshot the directory every day to the backup server. There is also a company that makes a plugin that uses rsync and you don't have to run the backup first. I think the link is http://portal.syslint.com/downloads.php Hope this helps
