Going to offer Resell packages

Posted by hostingwhere, 10-18-2006, 01:54 PM
Hey all, At the moment I offer shared hosting for clients locally, and im going to offer it outside of my local area. What ive been thinking is to offer reseller packages. I guess the question is would it be fair if I offered something along the lines of: -------------------- Plan 1 5GB storage 50Gb bw WHM cPanel Unlimited: Mysql Emails Addons Domains $15 --------------------- Plan 2 15GB storage 150GB BW WHM cPanel Unlimited: Mysql Emails Addons Domains $25 ---------------------- Plan 3 40GB 250GB BW WHM cPanel Unlimited: Mysql Emails Addons Domains $50 --------------------------------------- I know the web host market is somewhat cloudy, but I just wanted to know if these are even competitive? cPanel, WHM, 24/7 support, all that good stuff. I just need an input. Last edited by hostingwhere; 10-18-2006 at 02:05 PM.

Hello, I would say those costs are actually quite low for reseller hosting - especially in a cpanel, single server environment. Take a look a the many companies who have raised their costs for reseller hosting recently. Please remember, reseller hosting is a different animal, and clients will eventually utilize everything they have purchased. Although I do not like overselling enabled - it may be a necessary evil for someone like yourself just getting into the business. Maybe a better way to approach this is to have much smaller plans, but, allow resellers the capability to oversell? Just some input for you - Welcome to the world of reseller hosting. I LOVE this market space - good business to be in, met lots of wonderful internet professionals and have formed some pretty solid business and personal relationships along the way. I am particular you will enjoy this part of the business as well - hopefully you find value in my comments...

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate that. That is low? Wow, i thought I wasnt offering enough! I dont believe in oversell, ive been burnt by it, and rather offer reseller and shared with what I can give them. Does that sound dumb? Those prices are reflective of what I can get from my dedicated, so theres no overselling here. LOL, but yeah, thanks Cartika, I appreciate you taking time out to giving me input. Thanks again,

The think about it. Most host oversell, take any Big Host, They oversell. Here an example . Can get 30 GB same and Unmetered BW for $9.95. Tell me is that not overselling? http://www.easyhost.com/business-hos...s-hosting.html First of all dont spend lot money on dedicated server. starting your noting going to have lot clinets pay for server. I would suggest to get reseller account or VPS. VSP is like own server but bit smaller.

Ah ok, I gotcha. I am running a few reseller accounts for my shared, thats the onyl reason I ask about adding reseller accounts to sell at my hosting company, thats all.

Not a problem at all - also - make sure you remember that prices of operating a reseller business are more then just server disk space and bandwidth - make sure you include all of the prices required for backups, support, software, etc... Even though you may be able to handle all of this now, you may need to hire out some stuff in the future if and when all goes according to plan Build these things into your cost structure now - and you will be happy later

Thanks, just want to get some generalize advice. I just cant do the overselling thing, ive been burned way too many times from various hosting companies because i maxed out their space. That really sucks. Now, im not saying all companies do get pissed, just i keep getting bad experience with a lot of them, lol. Again, thanks y'all!

You don't need to oversell but insure that the cost of renting or colocating a dedicated server, will work out with this cost structure. Its best to fully understand all expenses prior to making a commit

I think it is tough to compete with those costs when you are up against godaddy resellers

Could be tough if you compite on price, but not if you compite on customer service

True, but their customer service and support sucks. If that was the case, all hosting companies would be out of business, right? We offer value and support, two things godaddy cannot truly offer... Again, thanks for the inputs.
