Need some help with SSL problem

Posted by Rett, 07-02-2016, 11:35 AM
Hi, I am new to dedicated servers and have an unmanaged one, with a management company. Most of the problem is that I am new to unmanaged, and some things that may be simple, are new to me. New enough I feel that maybe I am not conveying what I need at times. Hopefully someone here can explain to a noob to unmanaged dedicated how to handle this. Ok, I had the management company install cPanel and set nameservers to the same name as one of my domains, that I wanted to be the main site for the server. I also have signed up with CloudFlare for some of their services including an SSl certificate. At my domain register, if I set my nameservers to the ones on my server, cPanel, WHM and all the other services attached work with the SSL that cPanel supplied, all working with a secure https:// connection. However that will not allow the use of CloudFlare services and there is no secure https:// connection for the actual website as in the browser it shows error message and as insecure. If I set my nameservers to CloudFlares nameservers at my Domain Register, my https:// links all work properly for the website, but none of the WHM, Cpanel services will work with a secure connection. Is there a way to be able to have a secure connection to all? If so, what do I have to redo in order for this all to work? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey, Lets answer your questions. CF has its own free SSL which is shared amongst many domain names. If this ain't an issue for you then, keep the DNS at CF and use their free CDN service. CF has paid options for you, if you want to use your very own dedicated SSL provided by Geotrust, Comodo etc. Unless DDOS is a concern, I would recommend you forget about CF, and use cPanel based DNS and then purchase a proper SSL for your website. An SSL costs only $10 per year, around the same cost as of a newly registered domain name. Hope I made sense considering you are new to all this stuff. There are better and more experienced posters here on WHT, who might be able to give out a better advice. You may want to wait for a few additional responses before flipping the coin on this one.

If you are using CF, make sure you disable the hostname in CF so you can access WHM and avoid the conflict with CF.

based on CloudFlare KB, you should be able to access to your cPanel with the HTTPS .. https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en...th-CloudFlare-
