Need a Solution

Posted by santoshgs, 03-11-2008, 12:42 AM
Hi, I'm looking forward to restarting my webhosting business. I understand that I should start off with a reseller account and then work my way up. My problem is that I have a couple of websites which may get over 3-5k hits per day. My current host, iiPanel.net, suspended two of my accounts for over usage of resources saying I was using more than the 4% of resources they allowed per account. So now I'm in search of a new webhost which can not only handle my websites, but can also handle a few clients to whom I will be reselling (about 10-20 to be frank). Their usage will be small however. My storage needs won't exceed 5gb, but I'm thinking of 10gb to be safe. Bandwidth needed can be around 150gigs a month. Budget is $20 per month, which should also include either WHMCS/ClientExec and a dedicated IP. My needs are closely matched by HostNine.com and GeekStorage.com as well as ResellerZoom to a particular extent. My research on the background of these companies are that HostNine and RZ can't cope with my websites needs. I don't know about GS though. Please make a suggestion as to what my best course of action would be. Thanks.

maybe yahoo web hosting

They don't accept PayPal, which is the only way I can pay.

Unless you run some very inefficient scripts, those sites should be OK in a shared/reseller hosting environment. But if you really were using an average of 4% of the CPU though, you might have problems with other hosts too, given your budget.

Thanks. So what suggestion would you make? Should I go for a VPS? I can pay $35 per month if it's for a VPS.

Um..Anybody??

I'd definitely go with a VPS. You'll spend a little more, but it will be worth having whatever allocated resources they will give, plus you will have full control. RE: ResellerZoom - We acquired a small company that used them for some of their clients via a reseller account the end of last year. The server the clients were on was constantly peaked, sometimes twice the load than what the procs could handle, and the bandwidth was horrible. We had several backups get corrupted during the transfer off of them to our infrastructure, and had to repeat a few times. Not sure if that is the consensus, but that was our short lived experience with them.

Thanks for your replies. JayJay369: They don't include a billing system and a dedicated IP. Intelliracks: Would a VPS with 384Mb of RAM and running cPanel be enough?

I'd suggest going with a Good Reseller account as running cpanel on a vps eats resources. Your budget is tight but I think with a bit of luck you can find what your looking for. If you choose a host with at least a 7 day money back guarantee that should be long enough to find out if they can handle your site(s) and if not you can walk away and try again. Good Luck with your search.

Mind telling us what site you have hosted with them? Your statement just sounds a bit like a "promotion"

although a dedicated ip is (i believe) extra, you will definitely want to take a look at innohosting, they snugly fit your needs. good luck! Last edited by db09; 03-11-2008 at 11:22 PM.

Address lookup lookup failed hospitalitglobeinc.com Could not find an IP address for this domain name. Have another?

Thanks guys. Somehow, I did not get the email notifying your responses even though I have chosen to receive such. db09: Innohosting sounds good, but their TOS/AUP does not clearly mention how much resources we are able to use.

I had a look at Surpass Hosting. They are very generous with their resource limit (10% usage!). I've posted a thread asking them a few pre-sales questions but I guess it's the middle of the night in the US of A. I'm still very much confused though. Came across many other hosts such as Downtownhost and others. Any recommendations or suggestions about any other hosts are still welcome.

Does it matter where you sites are hosted? UK / USA

Did you just recently acquire this domain?

RelicHOST: I'd prefer the USA but UK would be fine too.

i noticed that myself when signing up, i run relatively low resource sites aside from a moderately busy phpBB.. i have not experienced any problems with it, though. you can hit up Rameen on here (i think his screen name is IH-Rameen) or their sales department and I'm sure they can clarify this for you. They are very easy to work with and I would assume as long as your usage is reasonable you'll be fine.

Well I'm seriously thinking about Surpass and Hostnine. Surpass because they have nice support and an active community. Hostnine because they're SEO friendly with their Reseller Central software and they have a 50% off coupon running with a money back guarantee. db09: Will do that. Thank you. I guess this thread can be closed. I've made up my mind to go with a reseller account instead of a VPS, and I will sign up after doing some research on the hosts mentioned by everybody. Thanks.

you are not the only one out there in this situation. I many times had to make big decisions worth many hundreds of dollars per month, and what cut it clear for me was exactly this point : I prefer by far to pay with paypal as that is where my funds are ...... so I went with the host that accepts PayPal
