per user bandwidth monitoring

Hi, I need to monitor per user bandwidth utilization. It seems like BandwidthD is a solution but I only see documentation for per IP monitoring. Has anyone implemented bandwidthD to monitor per user traffic? usaims

Or, what do you use to monitor user based bandwidth monitoring?

Can you be more specific? It really depends on what kind of bandwidth usage you are trying to track whether it's via FTP or HTTP and so on. If you install control panels such as Plesk or cPanel, they will take care of the tracking for you and record the monthly usage to make it easier.

This is for a web hosting company. There are Apache servers with thousands of virtualhosts. Each account/userid will have it's own virtual host, FTP account, etc; I need to monitor how much bandwidth are my users using, probably through there userid. I'm surprised there are not that many hits on the web concerning this topic. Thanks, usaims

In apache you could make use of the mod_logio module. http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_logio.html Set that up to log your users usage to a file then write a simple script to parse, total, then log to database.

If you are on cPanel/WHM control panel then you can easily monitor bandwidth usage from Home >> Account Information >> View Bandwidth Usage

I'm checking out mod_logio, it starts to accumulate in size quite rapidly. I'm testing it now for about 15 minutes, and the size of the log is already at 16mb. If the apache server is getting slammed, this log file could get really big in no time. Am I correct?
