Reseller Hosting with Custom CP?

Posted by techietype, 05-10-2009, 12:24 AM
Hi there, This may sound like an odd request, but I'm looking for a reseller hosting provider that uses a custom (in house built) control panel platform. I'm looking for a system that will be very easy to use on both the back end and for clients - something that, in my opinion, neither cPanel nor really Plesk can accomplish. I've looked at Mosso (now Rackspace Cloud Sites), and it would be a perfect fit, but it is too expensive. My budget is ~$50/month. I also tried out FastHosts.com (the FastHosts Reseller Program) but had to cancel in just one day due to horrendous problems... nothing worked! If you have any suggestions, please post here! Thanks, Jake

One of my customers offers Interworx / Nodeworx hosting on his dedicated server. He claims it is extremely easy on both the admin / reseller and client sides. I can vouch for the Admin side. It is one of the best laid out structures I have seen. It might just fit the bill for what you are looking for. I do the management of his server as far as hardware and software and I am highly impressed with Interworx. I suggest you do a search on "Interworx reseller hosting" and find a host offering this. I don't know if they are many hosts offering Interworx Reseller Hosting but it is worth a shot. Maybe the Interworx site has a demo for you to see the reseller and client sides.

What type of management are you exactly referring too? A lot of major server providers have custom management, TP, Liquid, FDC, Softlayer, Sago.

Resellerspanel has its own system. So does Godaddy. They're more like affiliate programs than reseller, but I guess you might want to check them out anyway.

I assume that all traditional control panels for the resellers are easy to use. Do not invite something specific for you

Why would you want to go with a custom panel? A lot of the customers out there are used to and looking for the standard options because they are used to them. I hate it when I choose a new cpanel themes alone and get tons of emails that they liked it the way it was because they were used to it. They search out providers that have the same thing so they dont have to learn something new.

My first thought when reading this was, who's going to write up all the custom help pages and FAQs for the newbies? Customizing by nature implies you want something different. Im with you RescueHst, I used to be with a Godaddy master distributor and their panel sucked. Give me cPanel any day. It's logical, and with WHMCS you can pretty well control the main features and limits and mask them from end users. And they have plenty of nice skins and its is brandbale. IMHO your new clients coming from another host will welcome cPanel over ClientErxec, Plesk etc.
