HostDime issues -- what is RNDC?

Good morning, We opened a reseller account with HostDime a few months ago. I had high hopes for this account, but we have had numerous problems with down time. Every morning we have some down time. We can't access any of our sites and can't get email. I've been back and forth with their support department, and here is the response I got yesterday: *************************************** The issue that you have been experiencing was due to RNDC which is a utility that allows administration to named however there is a key file that appears to have been incorrectly set not permitting named to properly function and allow http traffic to resolve. This issue has been resolved at this time and we will monitor further. *************************************** I'm a developer, not a network person, so I don't know what RNDC is. Can someone tell me what this means? Our sites are down again right now, and have been for about an hour. Needless to say, we are frustrated beyond belief. I would really appreciate any advice you can offer! Thanks, Michele

RNDC is the service on the server that runs the bind nameserver, also known as what allows your domain to be routed to a particular IP address. Can you please provide me with your ticket ID so I can check into this issue further for you? Thank you, Dennis VP, Operations HostDime.com, Inc.

DimeNOC Dennis, out support ticket is 138256. I sure would appreciate your help. My employers have already given the verdict that I need to find a new host. The down time every day has become unacceptable. Today we've been down for hours. I really don't want to switch, but I don't think I have much choice. Thank you, Michele

Thanks semoweb. The best outcome, in my opinion, is to just get everything working smoothly. I really don't want to move. Our sites have only been up for short periods of time today and I'm really, really frustrated. Trying to choose my words carefully! I really appreciate your comments. I have not heard much negative about HostDime and my experience has been positive with this one big exception. Thanks again, Michele

I need to say that you must help your clients with replies they can even understand.

Thanks Dennis. Today is a good day. The sites are all coming up and pretty quickly. It appears that all is well. So far, so good. Thank you for getting involved in this. I really, really want to stay with HostDime! I will give you another update in a day or two, just to make sure we're still on track. Thanks again, Michele

The rndc issue is a very poor explanation for what was going on with the OP.

Hello, Further details were provided to the client and his issue has now been resolved. As I said previously, we make a best effort to give as many details as possible at all times and the technician may have provided too granular of detail at the time. The named process has been stabilized. Thank you, Dennis
